Since the EFJ is less than ten years old the strategy will be approached
in two phases. In the initial phase it will be based primarily on
forging a variety of mutually-beneficial partnerships at local and
international levels, including some with Jamaicans living overseas.
As these partnerships develop the second phase will involve the
mounting of direct capital campaigns focused on specific themes
or aspects of the work.
Already the first such capital campaign has been designated: The
Spinal Forest Project. This
will be a long-term project in which the EFJ will initiate activities
and seek partnerships to re-forest the entire central mountainous
ridge or spine of the country: improving water supplies, reducing
landslides and other such disasters, increasing livelihoods and
enhancing the rich biodiversity which places Jamaica among the top
ten countries in the world for endemic species.
