Call 2010 Information and Forms
The core business of the Environmental Foundation of Jamaica is to use the mechanism of grant-making in strategic ways to assist civil society to find solutions to systemic problems in the environment and child development sectors. Initiatives receiving funding are expected to significantly impact the two sectors within EFJ's thematic focal areas and contribute to sustainable national development.
The EFJ receives proposals through a . A “Call” is a public Request for Proposals (RFP) for eligible organizations to submit applications for grant awards within a specified time period, for no more that US$100,000.00. Applications must fit within a theme of the current call. Calls are conducted once per year.
Oustide of a Call Period applications may be made for a for no more than JA$ 200,000.00. Responses to these requests are often provided within 20 working days. These grant requests must be very strategic and should address concerns within EFJ's Theme areas. The limited pool of funding allotted to Discretionary Grants makes the process a highly competitive one and can only facilitate one Discretionary Grant per Organisation per EFJ's financial year (August to July).
General Applicant Information
The Applicant:
- Must be a Non-Governmental Organisation, Community Based Organisation or Educational Institution.
- Must be in operation for at least 2 years.
- Must be operating on a not-for-profit basis.
- Must have a track record in implementing projects in the area of child survival/ child development or environmental conservation/ management.
- Must demonstrate the ability to successfully implement the project proposal.
The Project:
- Should have clearly defined objectives and indicators of success.
- Provide for community participation and collaboration.
- The Proposal should demonstrate financial or economic and social feasibility.
- The proposed methodology must be feasible and appropriate for the desired outcomes.
- The project model should be replicable.
Project Implementation & Management
- The Project Manager must have clearly defined responsibilities and accountabilities.
- The collaborative arrangements necessary to ensure project success must be in place.
- Project should be co-financed, (which includes in kind contributions).
- Where necessary requisite government approvals or permits must be secured.
Project Impact and Sustainability
- The project should have a positive impact/benefit
- Where project activities will continue after exhausting EFJ funding, the project must be designed to reduce dependence on further grant funding.
- The outcomes of the projects should be sustainable.
